Once Upon an Eid

Once Upon an Eid edited by: S.K. Ali & Aisha Saeed: This novel was a collection of short stories taking place in the month of Ramadan talking about the hopes and joys that come with the celebration of Eid. This novel was just so pure and full of joy. This really let the reader lean into the traditions of Ramadan and Eid from the perspective of middle grade kids; it was just so sweet and delightful. Kids have this wonder to them that really shines during times of celebration and so reading from this point of view was truly heartfelt and wholesome. Each story had something a little different; some were happier stories, while some were more solemn, but no matter what in the end, there was still that feeling of hope and optimism. Some of these stories were told in verse, another a comic, which brought versatility to this short collection. Even the art at the beginning of each story was so beautiful and really just brought everything together. This is highly recommended to anyone who’s looking for a mood boosting read with captivating stories that were fun and engaging with some moral lessons sprinkled in.
