Hello friends, happy Friday and welcome to my Weekly Update!
The Dead Zone: I’m 80% of the way through; slowly crawling through this. These two chapters were a bit on the slow side, but I found it interesting the parallel that King is placing on one of his characters to Hitler and the thought of being able to time travel back in time to kill him, would that make the world a better place. It does make me curious where this is all leading up to.
Lastly I’m reading By Your Side by: Kasie West. I’m enjoying this, it’s very teen romance (which yes I know, is the purpose of it) and it does it really well, but it’s not really doing it for me. It is nice and sorta fluffy and I’m enjoying that aspect.
What I’ve Read:
Last week I finished reading The Bone Witch by: Rin Chupeco. I liked this, it was good for a first novel in the trilogy, the writing was so good, the plot was a little lacklustre but I’m curious where the story is going to go.
I finished my buddy read of City of Bones by: Cassandra Clare and I enjoyed being back in the world, but damn that ending; I clearly didn’t remember how it all went down, and how confused I was going to feel, but I’m looking to continue buddy reading this series with Karla, @anotherbookworm!
Lastly, I finished The Masked City by: Genevieve Cogman. I actually really liked this novel over the first book; this one was full of heists and I just enjoyed the characters more too.

Links to posts I enjoyed around the blogosphere:
Kal @Reader Voracious wrote an amazing post breaking down the new Readerly app; I seriously needed this because I was so confused when everyone on Twitter just started talking about it. She also posted a great post about her love/hate relationship with book box subscriptions and gave some alternatives, which I love. I’m not one to buy book boxes, but I enjoyed reading this!
Marie @Drizzle and Hurricane Books wrote a great post on tips on overcoming reading and blogging fatigue; I felt so seen and I thank her for writing this
Another week where it started iffy. Sunday I just felt awful. It took a while, a few days actually to get out of the funk I was in. I’m finally feeling better, and I’m ending the week with finally booking an appointment to get my first vaccine shot next week! Yay! HUGE shout out to my friends who helped me book it, it was a struggle but we did it and I wouldn’t gotten the appointment if it wasn’t for them! 💕
A few positives from this week:
– feeling slightly hopeful that I booked an appointment for my vaccine!
What I’m watching:
One Tree Hill; season 6. Lucas’ book is being turned into a movie – at first I wasn’t a fan of Julian, but I’m warming up to him… I think this happens every time I watch this – I’ve never been a fan of Lucas writing a book about his life because it’s meta and I hate meta stuff. I love the addition of Sam and I like that Brooke is fostering her; Sam is so bright, even if she doesn’t want to show it. I hate that Owen is being a jerk because I liked him with Brooke. Gigi comes back, I forgot about that, woah that whole Millie, Mouth, Gigi plot I hated. I also completely forgot about Slamball! That was a fun few episodes!
Orange is the New Black; season 3. What is this season? What is this panty business that is happening? Why are they making panties? I also hate that Piper plans to sell used panties to men, ugh this whole plot is so strange. Alex is completely paranoid, which I find funny because she’s the one who always has her stuff together. There’s no real new character to shake this season up, there are a few new ones sprinkled in but they’re not really doing too much just yet. If it wasn’t for all the other inmates and their little storylines I think I would have dropped this show.
The Good Doctor; season 4. This episode was really interesting. I really liked how they chose to show the importance of voting and the importance of having a voice, the right to protest for what you believe in, as well as being able to have a conversation with people who have an opposing beliefs and values than you do (instead of screaming at each other and automatically thinking the other is wrong). And they did this all around two boys who get shot at a protest and their lives hang in the balance.
What I’ve watched:
She’s All That. How have a I never seen this before? This was awesome, I loved everything about this. Zack the popular guy thinks he can make any girl prom queen… even the most unattractive girl (so typical). So he makes a bet with his friends and he starts to go after Laney, the quiet art student. I love Laney she sees right through him and gives him such a hard time but over the course of the film obviously the two start to fall for each other. But just the little things that happen were so good, I love Laney.
Scooby-Doo (rewatch). Yes, I decided to watch the live action 2002 movie… I really like this movie, I’ve liked it since I was a kid and I really just needed something fun and mindless after this week. This really did the trick. Do I plan to watch Scooby-Doo 2? You betcha, 😂
