Meghan’s Best Books of 2020

Hi friends and welcome to a new post that I’ve never done before, showing off my favourite reads from 2020!

After seeing so many people talk about their favourite books year after year, it got me to thinking… why don’t I do that? So, today that’s exactly what I’m going to do… talk about my faves!

These are all the books I rated 5 stars on Goodreads this past year. This is in order by date read (starting from January and going down to December).

Two by Two by: Nicholas Sparks – read my review

  • this book surprised me, I didn’t expect to like it as much – the story is still fresh in my mind even a year later

Small Great Things by: Jodi Picoult – read my review

  • I didn’t realize how relevant this book would be when I read it in January

You Are Awesome by: Neil Pasricha – read my review

  • I think a re-read is in order because after 2020, this sounds like it would have good reminders, especially for self-care

  • this was a re-read and I completely forgot how good the world building is in this first book… the rest of the series fell for me

  • I know a lot of people felt mixed with the way this series ended, but I truly loved it

  • this was such a poignant read

  • I don’t know why it took me 3 years to finally read this! Such a good read!

Almost Adults by: Ali Pantony – read my review

  • this hit me in the feels and I related to all of the four girls in different ways

The Song Rising (The Bone Season #3) by: Samantha Shannon – read my review

  • the second book wasn’t as good as both the first and third novel, this one solidified my love for this series

  • I discovered my love of Acevedo’s writing and this was a powerful story told in verse

The Black Flamingo by: Dean Atta – read my review

  • speaking of powerful stories told in verse, woof this one was even better if you ask me

Felix Ever After by: Kacen Callender – read my review

  • this novel had me feeling so many emotions – the talk of self-love in this book was so good

  • I also discovered Ashley Woodfolk this year and I love her writing!

With the Fire on High by: Elizabeth Acevedo – read my review

  • although Acevedo’s work not only left me hungry but left me in so much awe of her work!

  • I like the way this ended, it was really sweet… now if I could get a book about Kitty!

So You Want to Talk About Race by: Ijeoma Oluo – read my review

  • I found this book really well written and I loved how it was written starting ever chapter with a question

  • this book kinda blew my mind, I wasn’t prepared for how good the world building was going to be!

Thunderhead (Arc of a Scythe #2) by: Neal Shusterman – review to come

  • this was just as good as the first, and that ending!

Dear Martin (Dear Martin #1) by: Nic Stone – review to come

  • this was hard hitting and such an important read

Dear Justyce (Dear Martin #2) ny: Nic Stone – review to come

  • this was just as good as the first novel, and really showed systemic racism

And those were my 5 star-rated books of 2020. Do we have any in common?
