Hey guys and welcome to TV Tuesday! Today I’m going to be talking about the Netflix reboot Fuller House.
It has taken me a long time to get through all 13 episodes of this season, which I have to add, I had no idea they were making it a series. I thought they were bringing it back for one season, apparently not since season two comes out December 9. I will probably watch it, since I haven’t quit on TV show yet. I have to also admit I almost quit this one, so let’s talk about it.
The spin off to Full House, and well the first episode was a trainwreck. Let’s start with the first line of the show, it came from Danny Tanner, and well it came off so forced, and that is what really sets how the rest of the episode is going to be like. It was like he was trying too hard to be funny.
Now let’s talk about how they introduced everyone back into the show, they all just show up from different parts of the house (the parts of the house they used to come from, Joey from the basement, Jesse and Rebecca from upstairs, etc. Also why did they give Stephanie a British accent, it was not funny, and a little dumb.
The way they re-introduced all the characters was so awful. Everyone just stood around and stated what they’ve been up to. It was like they stood in front of the camera and told the audience everything instead of actually acting. The whole episode takes place either in the kitchen, living room, backyard, and DJ & Steph’s room, and they tried to recreate what had happened in the past. There was even a scene that they played it side by side and it was three guys and DJ & Steph singing to Michelle, in the updated version, it was the three guys, DJ & Steph singing to DJ’s son.The show is more for people who watched, and loved the original show, not for new viewers. New viewers would get so lost because they just keep throwing old references in for NO reason, and sometimes it doesn’t even fit into the scene but they threw it in anyways.
So the premise of Fuller House is now grown up DJ has three boys of her own and is a single parent, as her husband has died (paralleling to her father). She has to do everything on her own now, as everyone is leaving. Danny and Rachel are heading out to L.A to start a new morning show, (and he’s looking to sell the house), Jesse is going with to work on his music, Joey is going to Las Vegas, Stephanie is traveling the world as a DJ, and Kimmy, well who knows what she’s ever up to. They throw Danny a going away party, and that is quite the scene. They do half a dance sequence and there’s a weird bit between Kimmy and her ex-husband.
Obviously they aren’t going to be leaving in the first episode and they’ll be sticking around, or what is the point of the show. To be honest I don’t know why they made the show, the show ended well, there was no need to come back. Also you can really feel the absence of Michelle, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I have no idea why when they first mentioned her they all just stopped to look at the camera, like a moment of silence? It was so awkward.
I was skeptical about watching the rest of the show after the second episode, but I carried on because I haven’t given up on a TV show yet… This was almost my first.
Anyways, as the show goes on it really just goes into the struggles of being a single parent to three boys, and Kimmy’s daughter. Kimmy has moved in to help out, and Stephanie has also moved in. At first she can’t believe that she’s become a stay-at-home mom.But once she leaves she realizes how much she misses it and goes back. I actually thought that was sweet. The whole show isn’t a total flop, but there are definitely scenes that are super cringe worthy.
We also learn that Steph can’t have children, and so she treats DJ’s kids as her own, another sweet moment.
I also had this random thought, whose life is so chaotic? Like DJ goes from one extreme to the next that it doesn’t feel realistic, also the amount of times she leaves work and leaves whoever may be around to watch her clinic that bothered me.
Speaking of bothering me, the way they just name drop things like Facebook and other relate things of today just feels so extra. It feels unneeded, yet they do it.
Ramona, Kimmy’s daughter, has her 13th birthday and they make it this whole blow out thing, of course nothing goes right at first.
Also this was completely awkward, like why did they have to go and mention the Olsen siblings like they were never part of the show.
As the episode evolves things get better, and Ramona realizes that people do care about her. Her father Fernando is so over the top that I’m surprised he’s not gay. Because he and Kimmy are getting divorced they make it the time where they reconsider that, also it’s Ramona’s wish that they get back together. The two kinda fit it’s odd.
They’ve also given Jackson his own “Kimmy Gibbler” with this character Bobby Popko (although according to IMDB he’s only in one episode) so how much of a Kimmy is he?
Also why is Steve just around? He just comes around and he’s so annoying! Like I know he’s trying to get DJ back, but he’s doing it the wrong way.
Plus there’s doctor Matt Harmon who is stealing her attention that is obvious they will get together, even after trying to set him up with Kimmy ha!
So Matt comes in when his father, who runs the clinic where she works, goes on vacation and leaves his son in charge. That’s where they’re buding romance begins.
When Matt’s father comes back, he has the potential to go back home, but when his father says he’s retiring and leaving the pet clinic to him, well he has to stay. This has DJ torn, for one she’s very happy he will be staying, but she is very upset that Dr. Harmon didn’t leave it to her since she’s been working for him for years. This makes her want to start her own clinic, but Matt talks her down and reminds her they would be partners.
Kimmy is actually in the process of getting back together with her ex, which I have a feeling they will.
When old characters come to visit, namely (dad) Danny, Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky, things get crazy of course. Danny gets sentimental over the couch (yeah) so Steph gets a blazer made out of the old couch upholstery.
The next episode Aunt Becky seems to live a boring life and tries so hard to find out who sent the mysterious roses. Out of the three girls (DJ, Steph and Kimmy) they all have no idea who it could be. Is it Fernando, Steve, Matt, one of Steph’s boys?
When it turns out to be Jesse, (I had a feeling, but couldn’t be sure) it was actually really cute.
This show really has its moments, get around the first episodes and things actually are somewhat good. Sure there are moments when it’s dumb and not funny, but it’s not total garbage. I know I keep saying that If you keep watching it gets good, it’s because it’s true. Watching DJ try and raise 3 boys without their father is hard, and at times it’s good to see how she handles situations, even if it is a complete rip off.
I also realized why the show is called fuller house, at first I thought it was because the house was going to be even “fuller” than it was before, but really it’s because DJ’s last name is now Fuller.
Uncle Jesse and Becky come to town so they can renew their vows, and Kimmy and Fernando decide to hijack the wedding and get married with them. Only Kimmy can’t seem to say “I do”.
And DJ’s love life has become an episode of the Bachelorette, where she must choose between Matt and Steve. She goes on a date with both of them, yet she still can’t decide, so who does she choose? Herself.
Next season will definitely be very centred around DJ picking a man, I’m kinda curious, but I hate that this plot is dragging on. I also kinda hope we get more Stephanie plot lines since she’s always been my favourite.
Until Dec. 9…
